2nd Annual Bob's 50th Birthday Party, and so much more...
2003-04-02 - 5:25 p.m.

Enjoy the silence...

I like a nice quiet office from time to time. Of course this was made even more special since there was an "energetic" conversation outside my cube, not involving me, by several of the upper level folks. They, of course, all have offices with windows and doors that close, but they were obviously en route to something else when the dialog was inspired. It's okay, really, I actually find it kinda funny in a way.

Last night I decided to take a gamble and stop by the Indian restaurant one of my co-workers told me about that is on Cherry Hill road, right after Powder Mill. I placed my carry out order and then went to look for a way to kill 20 minutes. Much to my surprise there was a small dollar store in the same shopping center. It wasn't your typical dollar store, it was much more geared towards a latino population. Fairly amusing. I ended up spending $10 on random stuff to include glitter pens and note pads. :) The food, by the way, was quite tasty. Not up to Akbar's standards, but close by and pretty darn good. I forsee a new food option for Play Nights!

When last we left our intrepid adventurer she had plans to drive down to Richmond on Friday night, Williamsburg on Sat. morning and then back to Silver Spring on Sat. night. And much to my surprise, the plan was executed with very little alteration. I arrived at Maxi's place around 10:30pm and got to chat with Thjora, Ella and warp my loom so I could start weaving a new project at the event on Sat. (This tablet weaving thing, now that I "got" it, is like crack. Trust me inkle weavers, you wanna try it.) I get to bed around 1am with a happily warped loom. Okay, really, I didn't sleep with the loom, we weren't even in the same room. It's not that addictive.

Saturday was an early wake-up call, chocolate, walnut and bannana muffins, and getting on the road already in garb anticipating no place to really change. Wise we are sometimes... We got there in plenty of time to check in, get Cuan his new Three Dog Bakery T-shirt, and get the medalion cord down to the vigil site. When I slide up to Cu to let him know I have a present, give him credit, he acted surprised. :) He said "A present? For me?" I responded "Well, I did got to New Orleans, didn't I?" The lastest edition of the 3 Dog Bakery shirt says Always Hold Out for Treats. Apparently he likes it, and even admitted to almost having worn through the first Will Fetch for Treats shirt. Admittedly, this will get to be an expensive habit 20 years down the line, but it's just too cute to pass up.

The Morning court was nice and dry, thankfully, and touching. Orianna really has been a great Baroness for Tir-Y-Don, Llywd and Kaleeb have big shoes to fill, which I'm sure they will do fine. They also managed to surprise Margret with putting her on vigil for her Laurel. Cuan did a very cool thing, I think, and had all the Peers present, not just the Laurels, escort Margret down to her vigil. It was kinda neat. It was a lovely vigil, overlooking the James River, very viking, and lots of cool stuff. Since we stuck around, by some mistake I'm sure, Thjora and I made it in fairly early in the vigil line. We hopped upon the opportunity and got to spend a few choice minutes with Margret before the rest of the rush took over. Since it was a bit removed from the main part of the event, we snagged some food, and headed back up to the field to hang out. I think I spent most of the day hanging out with Jeremy, which was a nice last hurrah before he left town. There was rain, there was ickiness, but honestly I had a great time thanks to a space in Byram and Melisant's tent and my loom and a bunch of cool folks to keep me occupied.

Evening court was a bit damp at times, but in this wonderful stuff box in my truck I happened to have an umbrella. Joy of all Joys! So, for the parts of Court when it rained I opened up my little roof and protected Ella, Thjora, and Suzanne aka DeeDee. I did scoot up closer for Margret's Laureling ceremony and it was very well done. The one last picture in my mind is her hands upon the sword of state as she swore her fealty with those amazing embroidered cuffs thanks to Rosine. It was truly inspiring. I got to issue my congratulations and the we had to dash off site (after a quick change into mundanes in the back of Byram's tent Hey Byram? Can we get naked in the back of your tent?...) and then got en route to the party.

We made it to Bob's party before 10pm. I came already dressed in my late 50's outfit, and just had to run upstairs to change my shoes. It makes the party just a little more fun when you dress for the occasion. I had my khaki capris, black 3/4 sleeve v-neck top, hair in a high ponytail with scarf and high heeled sandals. whoohooo! Props to Kirsten for playing the part of the french exchange student in beret. She was so cute! And what'd you think of those pants boys? I had a great time, and won the first door prize since my goodie bag had the pink alien! rock on! Rob looked amazing in his greaser outfit, cuffed jeans, and slicked and rolled hair. Mel was ultra cute in brocade capris and ponytail, as was Wendy in PINK!. I was in a weird mood, I pinched her cheeks and told her she was insert baby talk voice "just so cute in pink, yes she was..." I'm amazed I'm still alive. Harv's fro put Kirsten in laughing convulsions in the foyer. But the piece d'resistance was Laura in the black velvet cat suit and high heeled boots. Bob is such a lucky man! We also got to meet Q's new girl, who was pretty neat and not scared off by the folks at the party, so she's resilent at the least. The party lasted until around 2 when I went to bed after a quick tour of the house to check that nothing sticky was on something I love. I gotta give my friends credit, none of the glassware was broken, all the fish are alive, and my furniture is in tact. Yay for being an adult and still knowing how to party but not ruin the place!

Sunday Alan woke me at 10am to let me know it was snowing outside. He didn't want me to miss it. Isn't he precious? There was some cleaning and a lovely brunch out with some folks and life was good. I napped most of the rest of the day while Alan cleaned the kitchen floor.

So that was it. Late night up on Friday, totally warped. Fun is soggy event on Sat, Party on Sat night. Sunday was snow, WTF?, and lots of napping and recuperating... This weekend is Coronation in hell-and-gone Saluda NC. We can't leave early since I have to run two faculty training sessions on Friday until 5pm. It's gonna be a painful road trip, I just know it. :(

Peace Out Peeps!
