pennsic best
2002-08-27 - 4:11 p.m.Has it really been 19 days since my last update? Sheesh. Let's just say that getting back to work in the office after vacation was rough, and busy.
So, Pennsic. I think I'll focus on a Best list, and forgo the Worst. It helps me keep a positive outlook.
Best of Pennsic XXXI, in no particular order
- Our insanely comfortable camp that made it tough to leave and be social. With new comfy chairs, a nice breeze, dishpans of cooler water, sink nearby and familar drinks in cooler our camp was so decadent it made it so that at least one day I didn't leave camp once but for dinner.
- Excellent camp mates. I love that everyone in our group is an adult, and that everyone helps out to some extent or another and that the few chores that do exist got done fairly easily.
- Chocolate Milk delivered by Vlad. A speedy delivery service that comes with charming company too.
- Finishing up the hand sewing on Alan's three new pieces of garb. And hearing the compliments of him looking good in them too. I think that is the icing on the cake for sure. Makes me want to do more.
- Getting to get to one class on 10th Century Danish Viking Clothing, taught by a wonderful instructor and with excellent examples and patterns. Just wish she hadn't run out of handouts. Need to track her down online.
- Feeling useful and helping set up P's Vigil etc. It was a glorious experience seeing it all come together, seeing the Cu get a bit choked up about it. Glad to help make a Dream come alive, if only for a bit.
- Seeing P3's elevation in Great Court. It was a lovely ceremony, full of brief pomp, Atlantia looked good. Of course it didn't seem to make much of a difference in my eyes, since she's always been a Peer to me since one of the first days I met her.
- Being useful to others, without being rushed and feeling pressed to serve. Lovely freeing experience, to feel free to serve. Ugh, stupid statement, I should just retract it...
- Fresh tiny watermelon from Hrolf's Garden!
- Lochmere next door and Mimosas one morning
- Trayned Bandes group taking up part of our back 40. Nice to have old friends closer by.
- On that note, getting to see and hang out a bit Geoffrey, Grace and Anna. Really good to see Geoff and Grace again. Miss them terribly. Sometimes I feel cheated that they took a break as I just got started...
- Seeing Thjora beaming in her new Elizabethan outfit with stunning new hat from Syke's. Red is not a classic Thjora color, but it became her quite well.
- Seeing Isobel in her stunning new red silk coat (it really is as pretty as it sounds) and learning all the proper things a good wife should be at the period dinner. tee hee hee...
- The lovely period dinner, with excellent food was so much fun, despite my forgetfullness that it was on Tuesday night. We had a hearty chicken stew, spinach tart, cheese tart, an apple and onion dish, something else and yummy sugar and gingerbread cookies for dessert. I got to sit and chat with Mistress Strange :) and play a game of Tables (Tablero) with her as well. It was rather fun playing the Puritan souls looking down our noses at the uppity folks who the city has obviously corrupted. If you don't get the humor, you just don't get it.
- the lovely patter of rain on a canvas roof, knowing that no water is seeping in, and allowing you to sleep late.
- Meeting P3's parents again (vaguely met them at wedding... I think...) who are lovely and gracious folks. What a lucky girl.
- Embroidering an insta-favor for one of the twins...
- Puddle jumping in the rain with Bob and one silly monkey...
- Midnight hotdog run with CPM
- packing out with very little drama and on the road early in the afternoon.
- A/C Dinner at LoneStar in Cranberry...
- a cell phone that held it's charge in the wilds of PA all war!
- Getting home on Saturday with enough energy to unpack Scarlet, the cooler full of drinks, and order a Pizza.
- Getting all the Pennsic laundry done by the end of Monday after war...- now that is a true triumph!
Well, you get the gist, I had a pretty darn groovy time...
Last weekend was dinner at Timpanos, and then losing it. The dinner, I mean. Sheer waste of that much good food, damn beligerent tummy. Sleeping in until noon, since I was up late with the praying to PG, cleaning up afterwards, attempting to sleep in upright position, then on couch, etc. Missing work party regretfully. Making dinner with Jimmy, Sandy, Bob and Is, which was tentative(tummy-wise) but lovely. Sunday brunch and furniture window shopping in Columbia (I've been truly spoiled by free furniture from Hickory.) and then home to casual picking up and a Witchblade Marathon...
But, What's to come? you ask...
Yeah, right, like you really care...
