you wanted an update? You got it!

Wow, it's been a long time... ah Diaryland, my familiar friend, how I have missed thee...

Ahem, anyway, sorry I didn't update over the holidays, but I only got online when I had to when I got paged for work and after 8 hours a day online at work, I just wanted to be as little on a computer as possible. So, here's the skinny on my life for the past two weeks.

Sat, 22nd, head over to Quakmas at Os and Kelly's, had fun, the allergies stayed at bay, got to watch Shrek again and eat yummy food. I avoided the computer room downstairs cause I don't play computer games, can only be so fascinated by computer games, oh and that much porn. Really, I was there for the company upstairs, chatting with the sleep deprived Kelly and Gina. Mel and Patrick arrived aroun 12:30am as we were leaving so we stayed a bit amused by the drunk people, finally got Beth's top safely into the back of Patrick's truck and got the key safely back to him. I think we struggled home by 3am.

Sunday we had a little party at our place for those folks who had not left town to visit fam over the holidays and we had a pleasant time, nice small party of folks moving in and out. Even little Joseph Marshall Precht made a charming appearance and we played with him. Yes, I wore a tight sparkly little top and short velvet skirt and started off with knee high boots, but those only lasted an hour. The amazing thing was how clean I made the house, how guest friendly but sadly, I didn't want to use my sewing room afterwards since it was clean for the first time in a year. Folks were all gone by 9pm and we took naps and then read and went to bed, after dining on hors d'oeuvres all day.

Christmas Eve we bummed around a bit, took Alan to see LotR finally, but sadly we sat in the front row of stadium seating theater. Not a good plan, kind of motion sickness inducing. I'd warn anyone against it. Afterwards we went and hung out with BnL, went out with them for Indian food for dinner and then drove around for 3 hours digesting and tack hunting and looking at all the pretty lights, with a small stop at a gas station for Gen to get a diet coke to ward off the oncoming food coma. Afterwards we went back, hung out at their place a little and then Alan and I came home and decided to open a few presents now and a few more on Christmas day. Well, as it turns out we decided to open the presents to and from each other only and leave the rest for later, but after one present was opened it was past midnight and therefore Christmas Day and we could open the rest and we did and then we looked and pile from others and decided to go ahead and tear into them, and life was sweet. I gotta say that that was one of the most enjoyable Christmases I'd ever had. I was kind of looking forward to staying home and not traveling anywhere for Xmas, and I was on call, but it was so wonderful to have friends around to share it with as well. I loved have Xmas eve dinner out with friends, no dishes to do. I loved driving around just looking at lights, hey I had a full tank of gas. I loved simple opening of presents without the pressure of giving presents to family members I don't know that well and seeing if they like it and all that. Let's just say that I had a faboo Christmas, even if I did miss my family a little bit.

Christmas day was BnL's open house party, another entire day of eating hors d'ouevres all day long and hanging out with good friends. We got there early and brought the ice, and ate lots of Laura wonderful food and still barely made a dent in the enormous spread. There were mince pies, and chicken salad, and mimosas, and these little mini scones with cream and jam on top that were to die for, and just lots and lots of home made good food. Laura really showed her talent for making hors d'ouevres unlike moi who bought them in bulk at Costco. :)

The next two days were a bit of a blur. Gen had an art book and DVD Christmas and I had no problems with this at all. I sat around since I didn't have to work watching all my DVDs and flipping thru my art books and life was freaking great! I left once to go shopping for a wedding present and then on Friday was my coworker Courtnay's wedding which was fabulous. Saturday we got a surprise visit from Kirsten as she didn't feel like driving back to Richmond so we ordered delivery and just sat around chatting all evening. She had driven up for Dafydd's birthday party that we are apparently on the wrong side of the household to get an invite too. Luckily since I don't skate, and we were recovering from partying too much at Courtnay's wedding I had little problem with this, except that there were folks there that I would have loved to hang out with.

see there are two main sides to the Oldcastle Clan that are quite different. there is the kind, liberal, artsy minivan driving side of the household, and then there is the gun toting, big truck driving side of the household. Sadly, they don't seem to mix too much. sigh, but I like alot of those minivan drivers, really I do.

So after the surprise visit from the speed skating Kirsten, I went over to try and get embroidery machine time in order to finish my heraldic sideless surcote for the household. Well, I determined that since Theo had a bit on her plate, I'd offer to help with her projects in order to get machine time for mine, so while she did the great banner project, I did the monitoring of the machine for Gwen's hood so that Theo wouldn't have to. Yes, we love Gwen very much... As Theo has already related, we did fine for Taffy the First thru Taffy the Fourth, but Taffy the Fifth got beheaded accidentally, so I did spend the greater part of an hour or more removing the askew head of Taffy 5 and then we set off to Shane and Gina's lovely New Year's party!!! We had a ball! It was a great party, lots of cool people, even if BnL did leave us early on to go console a friend, and I drank a six pack of cider, and chatted around and then after the champagne toast at midnight where there were many New Year's kisses and hugs and well wishes (that was the best NY party I had been to in a long time) I started on teh drinking of water and Diet Coke to sober up to drive Wen and Rob and Alan back home to crater.

New Year's day I was up and back over at the machine finishing up the Taffys and starting on my sideless embroidery and starting the hemming of the hood and such. It was a good day, but I was starting to feel a bit out of it thanks to a few days in a row on allergy meds thanks to Mr. Garibaldi. I got the hood pinned and Wendy did the rest of the hand sewing on it and I got to hand sew a bit of the hem of Colin's vigil tunic to help a little with that peerage, and got 8 of the 12 double broad arrows on my sideless done. They were so much easier than the Taffy's let me tell you... There is a big difference between the complexity of the embroidery pattern and how often the machine is likely to screw up. But all in all, everything looked fabulous in the end, and we were only a little sleep deprived, and life was good. Of course the toll was taken so Gen went home sick on Thursday and stayed home sick on Friday in order to become somewhat lucid for Twelfth Night. Most people use the weekend to recover from the week, I use the week to get ready for and recover from my weekend. sheesh. Luckily for me Kirsten had finished up the 4 remaining arrows for my sideless while she was hooked up to the great machine on Wednesday, which was excessively nice of her. And, I must say, as a household, we looked faboo on Sat. for the procession in for Colin's Knighting ceremony. Although Kymber and Sir Christian remarked on the loveliness of blue and black, to which I told them it was not for them but for the Thjora I wore the blue and black.

Twelfth Night. I don't know why folks say it is so boring, 'cause damn I was busy all day. ;) Actually, I was busy enough to not be bored, had a bunch of errands to run and such, but also was not too busy that I couldn't sit down and chat with a few friends here and there. Sorry some of you guys had a crappy time. Wanna switch next year? just kidding. mostly... So, anyways, there were many cool awards given in both courts. For those that were not there:

I tell you, I didn't set the docet for court, I swear I didn't have anything to do with it at all aside from running the occasional errand to see if someone was there or not. I guess I just have cool friends and other people must think so as well. I take no credit on myself except that I have the wisdom to keep these folks as friends. :)

So, see, I had fun at 12th Night, we even got packed up and out with reasonable ease and all was well. Of course this means I missed some things like the dancing, and I missed talking to a few folks who I wanted to talk to but was on an errand when I saw them, but such is life. You take the good with the bad. Anyone who gets bored at a 12th Night, let me know, I'm sure I can find something for you to do.. ;)

Afterwards we went back to the hotel and had a great time just chilling with friends. The funny thing was that I had only one alcoholic drink the entire day and night. It was all I needed, I know this is cheesy, but I was surrounded by so many friends, I'm glad I wasn't drunk so that I could remember and enjoy it. I love my friends.

Sunday was a but rough though. All the prep and working adn running around and staying up late sewing was felt and came down on me hard. I slept late, finally dragged out of bed, got on the road and when I got home and did some grocery shopping I cratered. Big thing is that my calves hurt like shit. I kept on standing on my tiptoes when someone would ask where so-n-so was, and boy am I feeling that now...

peace out peeps!

and Happy belated Birthday Drea, and Happy Birthday Kim!
