Crusades!!!
2001-10-15 - 5:40 p.m.

Quick entry since I gotta jet in 20 mins.

This weekend was Crusades, as others have mentioned. The day went off pretty well, although we need to work on our Court prep organization, but it did go off really well in the end. I got a great compliment from Dame Anne on Sat about how organized the retinue was and how smoothly we made it look. Don't remember her exact words. It made me feel good though, cause it is all about looking good no matter what is happening in the background. The Queen show must go on. :)

Aradd's vigil was faboo. They set up the vigilino with the help of the some headlights, and it looks very nice. A perfect slice of the high middle ages. Andrew even wrote the latin words for the seven virtues and courtesy on the eight sides, it looked totally awesome. And the putting him on vigil was the best part. :) We were having a retainer meeting to keep him occupied and then we got the cue that it was time, and I said in a hurried way, oh yeah, Galmr is holding an impromptu court, and Aryanna played along well with it saying "You'd think he'd tell me about it!" tee hee hee. I asked where the sword of state was and it was upstairs, so Aradd ran up the stairs grabbed the sword and knocked over the fake plant on the way down and then ran outside. His head was down the entire time and when he gave the sword to Galmr, the King expressed that he had business with Aradd and that he wished to put him on vigil tonight. Aradd's shoulders sank and his head bowed further as he was overcome. It was the perfect surprise and we managed to make it happen so that all his friends could be there and not ruin the surprise factor. They marched him to the tent on the field, clensed him in a bath of ice water, and clothed him in a tunic of pure white. It was beautiful. His knighting ceremony the next day was equally lovely. There were worthies to speak on his behalf; Thjora for the Laurel, a Master of the Pelican from his group in Ansteorra, Corby for the Chivalry and a letter from Duchess Niobe on behalf of the Rose. Duke Stephan gave up his chain for Aradd, and it was simply beautiful. One of the best peerage ceremonies I had seen in a while. Gotta love the Aradd. He's so wonderful! It made us all so happy, himself included. One of the bits of advice that he passed on to us that another knight passed on to him was that "If you feel like sleeping in the regalia tonight, you wouldn't be the first one, but take off the spurs cause it will only piss off your lady." Some of those knights are too damn funny.

Yay Syr Aradd!!!

I have to agree that the other awards given out that topped the list of special in my little book was Timoch getting his Goldon Dolphin, who was very surprised, even thought the Queen was joking, Antonella becoming Baroness Antonella of the Court of Atlantia, fellow landless white trash :), Susie getting inducted to the Order of St. Aiden, and Kymber getting her Pearl. She made half of the retainers behind the throne cry, it was so sweet. And she bore it with so much dignity and grace, as to put us all to shame. It was also really neat to meet James's lady Ciara and see him get squired on Friday night at like 1am. Happy day all the way around, even if one of my first statements on site was "I hate people" :)

ah well, time to go, congrats to all! It is moments like those mentioned above and the free food at the tea that make this retainer thing really worthwhile.

oh, and I looked fabulous in my new sideless and Aryanna got compliments on hers too. :)

Next on the priority list is cutting out, serging and putting together her outfit for this weekend. :)
