The gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam... |
past, present and future Spring
2004-04-22 - 11:47 a.m.Snippets of my world from the past few weeks:
For you Strongbad fans, bumper sticker seen on a car: My Trogdor BURNINATED your Honor Roll Student Now that was a fun way to start my day last week.
Henry IV, Part 2 last night. Very good performance, you could easily see how Sir John Falstaff can wear on someone in time. Nice to see Shake's lead in to Henry V that we all love so well. I forget that not everyone knows about Henry V. Conversation with my Boss about our play was illuminating that most non-scadians sigh at Shakespeare's histories, but all scadians love Kenneth Brannagh's Henry V. I recommended it to my Boss to watch. Part of me wanted to see the Parts 1 & 2 back to back, but the other part recognizes the time commitment and that I dazed during the play last night. Not due to the content nor the performance, but due to my late night the night before.
Happy b'day to the K! We had dinner out before the play for a change at the District Chophouse. nummy food, great company.
Last minute Sunday brunch, more time with Melisande, Arielle and Val, Kevin and Jake, a sleepy Chat-narred Theo, lovely AoD and her sweetie. I did overdo the food, even though we tried not to, so I brought donuts into work on Monday, and Bagels, cream cheeze and grapes in yesterday.
Kill Bill Vol.2 with Wendy on Sunday night. w00t for the violence. One particular scene was tedious and absolutely terrifying at the same time. Quentin Tarantino is in his own special world, but I do love when it collides with the real one from time to time. Watched Vol.1 in the basement on Friday night before bed since the DVD was delivered that day. :D Kirsten had to listen to my squeals of laughter intermixed with the violent noise coming from the speakers. Screw Scooby Doo, it's all about the Bride.
Lochmere event was lovely. The weather was prime, the fighting scenarios entertaining for spectators, great company, loved seeing the Aettarbani's if for too brief a time. We also got to see Gregor and Beatrice and little baby Sarah in addition to the Olafssons.
We got to set up the newly cleaned and cared for Vermine Common Tent. It was a true testament that Arielle did not at first recognize her former tent since we cleaned the top and painted the poles. Yay for the new bigger and better tent.
We had the tent cleaning work weekend over the Easter weekend. Big Thanks to the folks that came out and helped. We truly could not have done it without your help. We scrubbed the black soot and Pennsic blech off the canvas roof on the driveway and then set it up over the driveway to dry. Who knew our driveway was 18x26, just perfect for the 18x24 tent. The backyard crew sanded and got a first coat of paint of the poles so that they are now splinter free, which makes my hands happier indeed. Alan made new ropes and I patched the big hole it the ridge area, and it is ship shape and ready for Sapphire, or something.
Hid easter eggs of candy around the worker bees in the yard so they had instant snacks at hand and perhaps a little bit of glee.
Coronation was lovely, nice weather, great happenings, we went high-speed, low-drag and were bums. K&P were both radiant. I loved Cuan in the pink houppelande. 'Nar called me his favorite Pelican. :) I also got to witness a new apprentice being taken and a new member added to the Order of the Laurel. I did chip in a bit with kitchen clean-up and managed not to pilfer one of the many lovely fleur-de-lys Seareach cut glass bowls, although the temptation was great.
Upcoming:
I am weary and need some down time. I'm skipping the Bandes's event this weekend that I hold guilt for, but need the break. I'll send gingerbread cookies in my stead.
Happy Earth Day today. In honor of this, I didn't drive into work. Not that I took the bus, I just decided to work from home today. I'll fire up my SUV internal combustion engine later for a Dr. appointment. I do feel the need to not telecommute and get some pansies or other plants for the front yard, but so far I'm being good.
*Addendum: Pansies are in the plots by the driveway. I stopped by a nursery on the way back from my Dr. appt. and picked up a flat and stuck them in the dirt. yay! I planted something on Earth Day.
Hey, it's a big accomplishment considering Nature hates me.Actually the real reason I skipped work is "Bring your children to work day". If asked I'd say that I'm giving my parking spot to someone else, but in reality I'm avoiding the crowd, and having to park in the hell-and-gone lot.
See you guys at Crown!
