we are the gray, we stand between the basement piles and the sewing room...

So, what was the last thing I wrote about? Ah yes, the gimpy husband. He seems to be doing much better. Although I think the excitement of a visiting shop-monkey Thjora and a day at the event perhaps gave him more exercise and upright time than he anticipated. But that's why we have the pain meds, right?

Thanks to Alan being home all last week we got the carpet in the basment cleaned and the padding replaced from the water damage we discovered this summer. It is nice to have the brown line gone from the carpet. Mind you this meant that we slacked the weekend before and I moved all of the stuff from the basment on the carpet into the little storage area. I did it all with a bit of ingenuity, some leverage and true hardened will power. Grr... I am woman, hear me roar! As a testament to my rare streak of intelligence, I didn't even hurt the next day, which is all for the best. We also got our phones fixed (horrible buzz on the line, wonderful Verizon tech fixed it.) And lastly, we had our HVAC system biannual maintinace done down in the basement, which meant conning Thjora into moving stuff back out of the storage area onto the mostly dry carpet. We limited it for the most part. Finally came Saturday morning and Alan pleaing that his period shoes were buried in the basement on the shelves. In a moment that will forever condem me in the eyes of the Laurels I ask if he could just wear merrels? Of course not, and a pouty face later sees me back in the basement digging out a bit of stuff in order to find the wonderful boots he bought at Pennsic so he can wear them. I was also back in the basement last night digging out the items we promised for pick up this morning. I guess I should just unpack it completely, but that would be another few hours, and I just don't have the time at the moment. Perhaps next Sat.

So, Crusades. I had fun, for the most part. I was up fixing the sleeves on Nikulai's coat (since I set Crusades as a deadline and it snuck up on me) until 2am on Friday night, and finished the handsewing on them Sat at the event. Luckily it was only a little bit and I had the man himself as company for the last of it. As it turns out, this was not the typical frozen Crusade that he'd need it for. Perhaps next year, or Ymir.

I also got to go shopping with Isobel, although I didn't buy a thing since I spent my last check at Troll (bad planning) but I did drool over Miguel's new knitting needle sets and eyeball a double lucet, which I've never tried before. Hmmm... bad man to feed my string obsessions. I mean, good man, good man! Before shopping was a drop by the Lochmere hospitality tent to mooch some food, and after shopping was swinging by the A&S Display, and marvelling at all the cool stuff shoved in the smallest room. I don't understand the planning, but I didn't volunteer to be in charge, so I'll just shut up now. I did however suggest to the autocrat of Crusades '04 the now A&S coordinator for that event. Plot Plot Plot. Really, it was just a "not me" kinda reaction and recognizing the unique talents and fabulous perspectives that Giuliana will bring to the event. Excellent. I also got to chat wit our wonderful Atlantian web-guy about the regalia database and confirmed yet again that he is a fabulous man. Love the Gruffy...

The one area that I am trying to choose grace on became my evening crusade. Who knew the event was so aptly named? Suffice it to say that I got 75 signatures on this but there are still so many left to gather. Is "I care so you should care" a reasonable argument? How about, "it affects my job, so please give your opinion, whatever that opinion is"? Thanks to all of those who suffered my badgering and put the pen to paper.

We came home to a late but lovely and yummy dinner prepared by Corby the Kitchen Bitch and his little elves Evja and Theo. It was very yummy, and we were a very sleepy party.

But Sunday, Sunday was equally as charming. Sunday held french toast and maple sausages. Sunday held futzing around and "Prithee Lady, What Thou Shalst Not Wear". Sunday brought a visit from Chris and Bera on their way home so Thjora could take a break from wood-shopping to fight (you guys have totally corrupted her!) and Bera and I got to sit around and actually visit for a change, instead of playing ships passing in the night. Sunday brought Roland, Theo and Anne over for dinner with Red, Hot and Blue takeout, ribs and great company. Sunday was wonderful.

And last night I rounded up the weekend with shopping for a B'day present for a rarely seen old friend, a random coral booth find in the Columbia Mall, shopping for clothes for me since I had a 25% off coupon (although I was disappointed that I only found 3 tops and nothing else to buy), and purchasing a new Isotonic comfy wave pillow for my brain to rest upon (since the one the Bera bought back in college has seen better days).

And today I am dressed in luxurious gray, from head to toe, lovely shades of gray, charcoal pants and heather top, brings out my eyes, proving that the world is rarely black and white.
