the poor little Tahoe
2003-02-21 - 5:40 p.m.

20 inches. I think that's the accumulation we got. And yet, all this "fun" snow and I was too sick to play in it. I did make a kickin' batch of snow cream for breakfast, but that's about it. Oh, and the Monday non-plowed streets excursion to get Gen cold meds that instead involved a sick and coughing Gen helping stupid sedans in the deeper than their wheels snow. buncha morons.

But, I'm not here to whine about being sick. Correction, still sick even though I now have to go outdoors to get to work. *cough cough* my co-workers are keeping their distance. Really, I am getting better, I swear.

I'm here to tell the tale of the little Tahoe that couldn't.

Poor little Tahoe was blessed with such an idiot owner. Poor little Tahoe ('99 I guess) was first seen in the middle of the travel lane on our road right at the end of our driveway, with his little hazard lights on. Engine still running, so not broken down. This was Saturday night when we got back from the event. There was only a few inches of snow on the road around the little Tahoe. Eventually the engien was turned off but the hazards left in place. Was it pushed to the side of the road, or left in the travel lane thus making the road truly one lane? Guess what the mouthbreathers of humanity would do? Yup, abandoned in the middle of the road, on the other side opposite our driveway. Eventually the little Tahoe's owner came back, turned off the hazards and left the little Tahoe in the freezing cold.

Sunday dawns with tons of snow and more coming. The little Tahoe remains in the same spot, only his condition is worsened because now 20 inches of snow for up around and on top if the little Tahoe. Little Tahoe remains unmoved, Gen looks out window between coughs to check on little lonely Tahoe. sniff sniff

Monday dawns, more snow, but has mostly stopped by now. Owner comes back in Jeep Cherokee with a bunch of kids. As far as we could tell they look at the Tahoe and leave after a time. Um, after parking in our wonderfully shoveled driveway thanks the the Alan. Do they ask to park in driveway, no. Do they ask for assitance, no. They leave.

Gen needs cold meds. This is made more difficult by the unplowed roads. This is made even more difficult since backing truck out of driveway was a little interesting since it also involved backing out without hitting the poor little Tahoe left in the middle of the road. Remember less control in snow, fine on open road, not so fine with Tahoe behind you. Alan manages like a champ. We eventually get out of neighborhood and back safely.

It is pertinent to mention that getting back into the neighborhood was easier. See, as we were helping the morons in sedans trying to get out of the unplowed neighborhood in their low ground clearance non-all wheel of 4 wheel drive vehicles, an Ambulance pulls up. They need by. These morons are in the middle of the intersection, as well as an all-wheel drive minivan who stopped in the middle of the intersection to "help" and a Jeep Wrangler with a plow on the front which only does so much good since the damn thing isn't heavy enough to push it. sigh. Ambulance is responding to a heart attack. A few of the crew get out with kits to run to the house to help while the driver helps to get these other cars the hell out of the way so we can get the hell out of the way. Gen is helping with the occasional cough. The good thing about the poor soul who had a heart attack (who I hope lived, I have no idea which house it was at.) is that the road was nicely plowed when we got back by an emergency plow so that the family could get out to follow ambulance.

We return from the grocery store with food and drugs, bless the drugs, better living thru chemistry. This means that the poor little Tahoe is not only in the middle of the road under 20 inches of snow, it has plowed snow from emergency plow around it. Still it moves not at all. No love.

Tuesday- the poor little Tahoe's story comes to a painful and sad end. The Cherokee comes back and spend more time in our driveway. Apparently the Tahoe's malady was a flat tire. They come back, jack up the Tahoe's front end, and start digging out from the back so they can get the spare out. Spare is kept conveniently underneath the rear of the car under the pile of snow. They get one spare on and apparently discover that the other driver's side tire is flat as well, this time on the rear. So they jack up the back and leave. I glance out window to see a flat bed truck up helping little Tahoe, think Tahoe's release is imminent. As far as I can tell Tahoe was left in same condition, or similar. Finally, as dark is ebbing, the cherokee is back with help, they get two new tires on the little Tahoe, get the Tahoe started and leave the Tahoe and Owner to their own devices.

Now here is where Gen places the last of many calls to Theo's place with the Tahoe tale. Here is where Gen realizes that Tahoe is ready to go and all the driver has to do is clear off the snow, and get. Except that driver is an idiot. You'd think after seeing all the snow one might pack gloves. Nope, this moron is there, gloveless and trying to clean off the Tahoe with a dustpan. A DUSTPAN!!! Once again, does he ask for help, no... So I sit at a moral delima. Do we offer help to the poor stupid Tahoe owner and help him clean off his vehicle or at least loan him a shovel and scraper? *cough cough* Or do we let this be a learning experience that living north of Florida occasionally means you have to deal with cold that mean gloves and a scraper? After much deliberation we decide to let this be a learning experience for the stupid Tahoe owner and hope he learned the lesson. 4 days later, a vehicle that would normally have been good to have in the snow is finally freed and set on the already plowed roads. Then again, it is possibly a good thing that this idiot wasn't actually driving in the stuff.

Morons, I tell you the world is full of morons. Perhaps I failed my good samaritan check, but some things just have to be learned the hard way...
