I was going to give a review of Star Wars since I was one of the insane who saw it at 12:15 am this morning, and was still into work on time. Instead, read David's review, much more insightful than I would have been. Instead my focus has been shifted...

Today, I would like to introduce you to a great man, Mr. H. G. Smith, called Howie by friends and family.

Howie is a kind soul, gentle by nature, and smart as you wouldn't believe. Howie, with his wife of almost 54 years has raised 4 strong successful sons over the years, and have one fine granddaughter. He's an economic genius, living his entire life without debt, and living well to boot. He had a house near the city for raising his and Ginny's boys, and a house on Cape Cod that they slowly built over the years and spent many summers at. Later on after 3 of the boys grew up and moved out, they moved out to the cape house permanently to enjoy serene rural living, with amazing lake vistas year round.

Howie enjoyed activities of swimming, boating, bird watching, exercise, stamp collecting, classical music and lots and lots of reading. He raised his four boys well, teaching them values and helping them become what they wanted to be. He is a loving and soft spoken true gentleman.

If you haven't guessed already, Howie is Alan's dad, a very wonderful person.

And, a few hours ago, Howie's flame was extinguished in this realm to be lighted in the heavens above. He will be missed. The selfish part of me is mostly sad that I didn't get to know him better. I grieve too for his bride left behind, and his adoring sons who will miss him terribly.
