The first time I ever visited Jason and Shannon in their new house, I had dropped off Mel at Dulles for some work trip and stopped by to hang out in the afternoon and then head home. They have a lovely house, for those who have not seen it, and I have yet to see the recent developments for it, but it has required a lot of work on their part to get it looking as fabulous as it does.

So, the first time I saw this house, I got to hang out with Zephyr the psycho-husky and chat with Shannon as she showed me around and Jason as he worked on the front door frame. So, at one point in time, I'm down in the basement chatting with them both and start looking at the previous owner's wallpaper and see several loose corners and start picking. See, I'm bad as sometimes little bits of an obsessive compulsive nature peek thru. So, as we discuss life the world and everything, I finally interrupt with Hey Shannon?--- Yes?--- Are you planning to keep the wallpaper in the basement?--- No...--- Eh, would you mind if I started peeling off the wallpaper? pick pick pick... Several hours later, a bucket of soapy water and sore arms, and their basement was free of the odd textured and puffy white on white wallpaper. It all started with innocent OC picking... and yet it was fun in its own right. In a fun destruction kind of way...

So, Yesterday we met with our Realtor, who seems to be a really nice guy, and went over the inside and outside of the house making a laundry list of minor stuff that would be good to do before putting the house on the market. Speaking of laundry lists, I still have a few piles of laundry left in the basement. ick. Well, one of the things on the list of stuff to do was fix or remove the cork board tile on the wall of the stairwell upstairs. See, previous owner, heaven knows why, put a line of cork board on either side of the stairs to the second level right at the edge of where the floor is. Maybe they had kids living the second level and wanted a place to display the latest crayon pictures brought back from school, who knows. I guess we could have used it, but in all likelihood we'd just knock stuff off the wall when we take the futon mattress up and down the stairs, not to mention the canvas we store in the attic to keep it high and dry. So, the above mentioned cork board was discussed by the realtor and Gen starts messing with it, and picking at it and next thing we know, after dinner with Wen and Rob, Gen and Alan are removing the nasty cork board and the molding on the top and bottom of it and the icky cork board is gone. Well, it's actually in a garbage bag in the kitchen, but off the walls is good enough. Of course we will have to sand and paint the area where the molding came off and repair some small part of the plaster, but we'd have to paint over the flat matte paint that is a pale pistachio color that was underneath it anyways. But, even with the differences in paint, it is much more pleasant with the cork board gone. And the whole removal project was done with a set of pliers. :)

Ah, it's the little things that make a difference...

Friday night we went out to dinner with Rob and Wen after I made the resolution to stay home and do laundry and stuff. I am so weak willed sometimes. As soon as we got back Alan sacked out and then Rob and Wen stayed for another hour and chatted, and when they left to go home and crater I did some of the laundry and sewing on a little project while channel surfing until 2am and then slept until 10am the next day. Then we were off to the Lochmere event where we arrived late, but had a great time, hanging out with folks, court was brief but lovely, and the feast was quite yummy, especially the eggplanty goodness and the chicken stuff. Mind you a little salt didn't hurt anything, but then again there is the main difference between the medieval and modern palattes. There was dancing, which I did not participate in mainly because I knew none of the dances and had my normal amount of running around doing errands. That and no time to learn the new funky Italian dances that are all the rage, apparently. Meng got apprenticed to the Angel of Death, without swearing fealty cause she's a royal peer and in fealty to Crown anyway, but the ceremony was lovely and I think they will make a great team. This is great 'cause AoD has so much wisdom and knowledge to impart and her other apprentice, Madeline, is currently inactive. All in all a pretty cool event. Afterwards, due to the post revel being held where there are cats, we went back to BnL's to drink and have Alan rub the shoulders of the tired baroness.

Sunday was more sleeping in, watching lots of Trading Spaces, got a shower, talked to my folks, realized that in the interest of all the stuff we have to do this spring, avoiding the side trip to New Orleans before Gulf Wars will free up one weekend for more house/wedding stuff and means we'll spend less money not going into that wonderful city of sin and really good food. Now I just gotta let folks know and then figure out when we need to leave and what needs to go and all that jazz. But before GW is UofA, Ymir, and an Investiture.

So, wonderful realtor came over, we went over the house, making a list, checking it twice, seeing what can be done by outside contractors, when we can do other stuff and in what order would be the best way to do stuff. I think our first step is getting a storage unit and packing up and moving stuff to it. Getting Clint back his table, Kevin back his tent, Mel her chair, and cleaning out the garage and basement so the area looks more spacious than it is. I'll also have to *gasp* pack up all my sewing stuff and fabric and machines and such and pack it away too, especially since it enables the junky look and that is what we are trying to get away from. pout. Eh, not like I'll have time to sew between now and the wedding anyway, right? So, off to storage unit hunt! Wish me luck. :)

Anyone know where to get the little dessicant packs that come in shoe boxes in bulk?

Did everyone check out Roland's cool new design to his page?

Is anyone annoyed by my questions yet?
