real men

take your mind back
i don't know when
sometime when it always seemed to be just us and them
girls that wore pink
and boys that wore blue
boys that always grew up better men
than me and you

what's a man now
what's a man mean
is he rough or is he rugged
cultural and clean
now it's all changed
it's got to change more
we think it's getting better
but nobody's really sure

and so it goes, go round again
but now and then we wonder who the real men are

see the nice boys
dancing in pairs
golden earring, golden tan
blow-wave in the hair
sure they're all straight, straight as a line
all the guys are macho
see their leather shine

you don't want to sound dumb
don't want to offend
so don't call me a faggot
not unless you are a friend
then if you're tall
and handsome and strong
you can wear the uniform and i could play along

and so it goes, go round again
but now and then we wonder who the real men are

time to get scared
time to change plan
don't know how to treat a lady
don't know how to be a man
time to admit
what you call defeat
'cause there's women running past you now
and you just drag your feet

man makes a gun
man goes to war
man can kill and man can drink
and man can take a whore
kill all the blacks
kill all the reds
if there's war between the sexes
then there'll be no people left

and so it goes, go round again
but now and then we wonder who the real men are
and so it goes, go round again
but now and then we wonder who the real men are
and so it goes, go round again
but now and then we wonder who the real men are

Tori covers this song on her new album Strange Little Girls. Actually all the songs on this album are covers since she does Heart of Gold and Enjoy the Silence and I'm Not in Love as well. But I had never heard this song before, and honestly it sort of struck a cord. I mean, I know I'm breaking one of the Angel of Death's rules fo posting to Diaryland and all, but how many folks have heard this song before? Do you ever wonder if those folks who think they are real men, who are the tall strong manly guys are in fact just weak little boys on the inside? It takes a real man to admit he's wrong, to cry in times of grief, to be caring and yet strong of heart, mind and conviction. It takes a real man to stand up to his enemies and even more to stand up to his friends. Then again, what do I know, I'm just a girl...

must remember not to get the honey dijon dressing in the cafeteria upstairs, it tastes low fat and nasty... but it sounded so good in my head mixed with tomatoes and ham. sigh.

We met with a realtor last night about what to do to get our house ready for sale, what needs to be done, what should be done last, prices of other houses in the nieghborhood, what our high and low numbers should fall between, how to market our house the best, etc. Of course, I am Miss Instant Gratification, and I don't want to have to go thru the hassle of selling this house, I just want it to magically be done and I want a newer bigger house. with hardwood floors. and a 2 car garage. and a nice big sewing room with a door I can close when folks come over. and a real great room for parties. and a master bedroom with a master bathroom so I don't have to go down stairs to use the facilities in the middle of the night... but, first there is work to be done. Preapproved for a loan up to x amount, cleaning, stowing, repainting, finishing the crown moulding in the library, scraping and painting the garage, moving stuff to a storage unit, painting the basement floor... so much to do, so much to say...

and then I chatted with Wendy for an hour and the jist of the conversation was borrowing Mallrats and Clerks... :)
