Hmmm... Today was lunch with Kelly. We met at Applebee's and she even offered to buy me lunch, since she got paid today. It's along the lines of constantly owing your friends or them owing you somewhere between $5-20. No big really. I buy her lunch, and then later she buys for me. It all works out quite well. The only time it doesn't work out is when you have cheap friends who are always sponging off you in one way or another... Love the Kelly! Sam can't get rid of her, absolutely locked in, he'd be a fool otherwise. We had a lovely lunch and then she tested out the seats in Scarlett for comfort sake. I totally understand the difference between driving like you are sitting in a chair and driving like you are sitting in a recliner. Big difference. Chairs are nicer on the hips, back, knees, etc.

But first to the play. Because, the play's the thing! Hamlet Ah, what a well done production. Ah me... Wallace Acton was superb as Hamlet, although I still say he reminds me a lot of David Hyde Pierce, with Sting's hair mind you. I really liked his version of the To be or not to be... speech, very quiet and introspective, like he was actually thinking it to himself, as oppossed to overacting and overemphasizing it like some actors want to do. Ophelia made me cry, wow. Somehow I don't think I ever truly understood and appreciated her madness until seeing this play. It was also just a little scary that before she went crazy she looked amazingly like Seonaid. My favorite part of the play however was the set/costumes. They had a whole monochromatic theme. Most everything was shades of black, white and gray. The set was like a set of giant dominoes, upright and shiney on one side of the stage, and fallen and rusting away on the other side. It was very poetic to the decline of the royal house and everyone's sanity throughout the play. All the gentlemen were wearing long flowing coats, whether leather dusters or opera coats, it was very striking. But spaced throughout this monochromatic scene were small but vibrant splashes of color. Gertrude would wear a vibrant orange dress with an orange and pink wrap. The head player would wear a black suit with a bright red silk shirt peeking out from his vest. Ophelia wore a lovely powder blue silk dress, and in her madness a ratty blue chiffon robe over a white slip. The entire scene would be black and grey and then Hamlet's mother's bed was bedecked in red velvet sheets, and pillows and covered headboard with red chiffon drapes... Visually this was a very stunning play in addition to the nature of the material.

Of course we didn't get home until late since Rags and Kymber were there and it's so hard to not talk to them. And then when we finally extracted ourselves, and made our way back to Roland and Theo's, Alan's truck wouldn't start. There was plenty of juice, so not a battery problem, it just wouldn't catch. After a bit of the engineers looking at it, me looking pitiful because I know it won't start and the sooner everyone else gives up I can take Alan home with me and get to bed, he eventually locks the truck, climbs in and I usher us home. sigh. We go and check on it in the morning and of course it starts just fine. Alan thinks he might have flooded it a bit or something, seems to be working fine now. :) Keep your finger's crossed. He took it to the dealer but they wanted some insane amount of money just to hook it up to the computer to read the code.

Yesterday was the IT work Xmas Party. So that makes three in one week; a lovely luncheon with our group, the Univeristy wide one, and then just the IT one. It didn't suck nearly as much as I might have feared, and was actually quite enjoyable. Although, what is up with having Xmas parties and not playing at least seasonal music. hello? What does the Electric Slide, and the Jackson Five have to do with the holidays? sigh. I'm so tired of the Electric Slide. At least they didn't play the Macerena. Even scarier was that there were folks out there participating. Of course, what do you expect when you let Weasel Boy be the DJ?

Last night was cleaning the house before Kirsten came, swifting the floors, bathroom scrubbage, vacuuming the couple of area rugs, tidying a bit around the place. Then we I lay down for a quick nap after starting some laundry and we were off to Last Chance and meeting up with friends. Nice small group this time, and Kirsten met us there, which was fun. Afterwards, she followed us home and we gave her a place to nest and a couple of blankets and she swears she slept the best last night than she has in a while. Sickness does that to folks. It's so good to see her again. She has been busy all day playing on Theo's machine.

And so far, we have managed to fend off the plague despite being sandwiched between Rags and Kymber and Roland and Theo at the play. Yay for flu shot and luck!!!

Also, today marks the one year anniversary of Gen on Diaryland. Be afraid, be very afraid. who would have known that a) this would hold my attention that well, must be my narcissism and that b) you would want to read a year of my life, must be the voyeristic tendancies...
